Numerical Modeling of Water Flow and Contaminant (Nitrates) Transport in Agriculture: Review
نویسنده
چکیده
Water movement in soils is a key process that aff ects water quantity and quality in the environment. Movement of contaminants in soils is closely linked with the soil water fl ux and it is very important to properly evaluate these processes that occur in vadose zone. With development of new technologies more attention is dedicated to the use of numerical models to assess water fl ow behavior and groundwater pollution caused by agricultural production. Th is paper presents a review of many articles that are focused on vadose zone modeling and on the application of these models in agricultural/environmental sciences. With increasing development of computer technologies there is also increasing amount of programs that solve water fl ow and solute transport. Water fl ow is solved with Richard’s equation, and for space discretization Galerkin fi nite element method is mostly used. Th e equation used in solute transport dominantly depends on solute whose transport is simulated. Modeling for sure represents the future of environmental protection and can be used for better understanding of vadose zone processes.

Investigating future changes in groundwater quantity and quality in the Khash alluvial aquifer through numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modeling
The Khash alluvial aquifer, in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, supplies the water needed for agriculture, drinking, and industry in the Khash area. In order to predict the future status of groundwater level and water quality, and to find aquifer management solutions, groundwater flow and solute transport models were developed using MODFLOW and MT3DMS. GMS 10.3 was used to develop the model. Ca...
متن کاملExperimental and Mathematical Investigation of Time-Dependence of Contaminant Dispersivity in Soil
Laboratory and field experiments have shown that dispersivity is one of the key parameters in contaminant transport in porous media and varies with elapsed time. This time-dependence can be shown using a time-variable dispersivity function. The advantage of this function as opposed to constant dispersivity is that it has at least two coefficients that increase the accuracy of the dispersivity p...

The aim of this paper is to study the popular models used for the simulation of major elements of a water quality system. The present study compares results of the CE-QUAL-W2 model with the WASP5 and MIKE11 models to assess the water quality of Pasikhan River. The contaminant loadings of Nitrate and Phosphate are utilized in the CE-QUAL-W2, WASP5 and MIKE11 simulations. This study is the first ...
متن کاملRisk assessment of industrial hydrocarbon release and transport in the vadose zone as it travels to groundwater table: A case study
In this paper, a modeling tool for risk assessment analysis of the movement of hydrocarbon contaminants in the vadose zone and mass flux of contamination release into the groundwater table was developed. Also, advection-diffusion-reaction equations in combination with a three-phase equilibrium state between trapped air, soil humidity, and solid particles of unsaturated soil matrix were numerica...
